SSC Combined Preliminary Matric Level Examination Syllabus 2008



Skill Test:

The questions in all the tests will be ‘Objective Multiple Choice Type’. Candidates will be required to qualify in each of the two tests separately.

The Commission will have full discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in the two tests separately or comulatively. The Questions will be set in Hindi and English Languages.

General Intelligence: The syllabus for General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal and non verbal type.

The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination observation, relationship, concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series etc.

 

The test will also include questions designed to test the candidates' abilities to deal with abstract ideas, any symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.

General Awareness: Questions will be designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society.

Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person.

The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, and Geography, economic scene, General polity, Indian Constitution and scientific research, etc.


Combined Matric Level Main Examination Syllabus for Grade 'C' Stenographers (Conventional Type)



A) Grade ‘C’ Stenographers

Skill Test

Stenography skill test: 100 words per minute - 300 marks

(Stenography Test will be conducted later for those candidates who qualify in the Main Examination.)

Note:- The candidate who opt for Hindi/English in General Studies and Essay will have to take the skill test in Hindi/English as the case may be.

Paper I

A. General English: In additions to the testing of candidate's understanding of the English language and its correct usage, his writing ability would also be tested. Questions on paragraph writing, report writing/letter writing/precis etc. may be included.

 

B. General Studies: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidate's general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society.

Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person.

The test will include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to Sports, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity, Indian Constitution, scientific research etc.

These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

Paper II

Essay: Candidates will be required to write essay on two topics.

They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay, to arrange their ideas in orderly fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expressions.

Stenography Test:

100 words per minute- 300 marks

The Shorthand Test in English will comprise of one dictation test, at 100 words per minute for ten minutes, which the candidates will be required to transcribe in 50 minutes.

The Shorthand Test in Hindi will comprise of one dictation test at 100 words per minute for 10 minutes, which the candidates will be required to transcribe in 65 minutes.

Candidates will be required to transcribe their Shorthand Notes on manual typewriters and for this purpose, they will be required to bring their own typewriters with them.

Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.

Second chance for Stenography Test will not be given to those candidates whose typewriters go out of order, for any reasons, during the currency of the test.

No electronic typewriters would be allowed under any circumstances.


Combined Matric Level Main Examination Syllabus for LDC (Conventional type)



Skill Test

Typing Test Will be Conducted Later for Those Candidates who Qualify the Main Exam.

Paper I:

C. Arithmetic: Questions of this component will cover number system including questions on simplification, decimals, fractions, LCM, HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, tables and graphs etc.

Syllabus for LDC:

Skill Test (Typewriting Test):

The candidates who qualify the main examination(s) will have to undergo a typewriting test.

Typewriting Test is a Qualifying test only. Required minimum typing speed for this qualifying test is 30 words per minute (in English) and 25 words per minute (in Hindi).

Candidates are allowed to take the typewriting test either in Hindi (Devanagri script) or in English.

Candidates shall have to bring their own typewriter for the test. Use of electronic typewriter is not allowed in typewriting test.

Only those candidates who secure in the written (main) examination such minimum qualifying marks as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion will be eligible to be considered for appearing in the Typewriting Test and only such of them as qualify at the typewriting test at the prescribed speed will be eligible for being recommended for appointment upto the number of vacancies available.

The typewriting test will consist of one paper of running matter of 10 minutes duration.

No second chance will be given to candidates if their typewriter goes out of order or fails to work during such test.

Note:

  1. A candidate who claims to be permanently unfit to pass the typewriting test because of physical disability may, with the prior approval of the Chairman, Staff Selection Commission, be exempted from the requirement of appearing and qualifying at such test, provided such a candidate submits a certificate in the prescribed form to the Commission from the competent medical authority declaring him/her to be permanently unfit to pass the typewriting test because of a physical disability.This certificate will have to be submitted at the time of applying for main examination/typewriting test.
  2. A candidate who submits medical certificate from the medical board attached to VRC for PH persons or from the medical board attached to special employment exchange for PH persons, his/her claim would be accepted straight away. However, a candidate who submits medical certificate from civil/orthopedic surgeon, his/her case would be referred to medical board attached to VRC/special employment exchange for PH for clearance.


Combined Matric Level Main Examination Syllabus for Stenographer Grade ‘D’ (Conventional Type)



Stenography Skill Test - 200 marks - 80 words per minute. Stenography Test will be conducted later for those candidates who qualify in the main examination.

Note: The candidates who opt for Hindi/English in general studies/language comprehension paper have to take the skill test in Hindi/English as the case may be.

Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment.
