COMEDK PGET - Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka Post Graduate Entrance Test


The Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has been assigned the task of organising a common entrance test for the academic year 2009-2009, for candidates aspiring to pursue Post Graduate Courses in Medical and Dental studies in the state of Karnataka, in colleges run by Private Medical and Dental Colleges who are Member Institutions of the consortium.

COMEDK Post Graduate Entrance Test - COMEDK PGET 2009 will conduct a separate entrance test for Medical and a separate entrance test for Dental Post Graduate courses called 'COMEDK PGET-2009', for candidates seeking admission to Post Graduate courses in Medical and Dental studies.

The entrance test is being conducted for use by COMEDK Member Institutions only. The COMEDK entrance test is mandatory for candidates seeking admissions for the Post Graduate courses in Member Institutions.

The COMEDK PGET-2009 test scores are valid only for admissions during the academic year 2009-2010.

The COMEDK PGET-2009 will be conducted only at centres in Bangalore on Sunday the 18th February 2009.

Eligibility

Degree / Diploma Programs: Applicants must meet all requirements stipulated by MCI / DCI. Accordingly, they should have successfully passed their M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. from an institution recognised by MCI / DCI, and must have completed or completing their internship by 30/04/09.

MCI / DCI Norms: Every student, selected for admission to the Post Graduate medical / dental course in any of the medical / dental institutions in the country, shall possess recognized M.B.B.S. / B.D.S. degree or equivalent qualification and should have obtained permanent registration with the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India, or any of the State Medical / Dental Council or should obtain the same with in one month from the date of admission, failing which the admission of the candidate shall be cancelled.

Provided that in the case of a foreign national, the Medical Council of India / Dental Council of India may, on payment of the prescribed fee for the registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of the Post Graduate training restricted to the college / institution to which the applicant is admitted for the time being exclusively for Post Graduate studies; Provided further, that temporary registration to such foreign national shall be subjected to the condition that such person is duly registered as medical practitioner in his own country from which the applicant has obtained his / her basic medical / dental qualification and that his / her degree is recognized by the corresponding Council or concerned authority.

As per the Post Graduate Regulation 2000 of Medical Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2009) for eligibility for admission to Post Graduate Courses shall be 50% for General Category candidates and 40% for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBC as declared by Government of Karnataka from time to time).

As specified by the Dental Council of India, the minimum percentage of marks in the entrance test (COMEDK PGET-2009) for admission to Post Graduate Dental courses shall be 50% for all the candidates (Reference: DCI. Letter No. DE 14-2004/1135 dated 05 May 2004).

Rank list / Rank Card will be prepared only for those students who become eligible for admission to Post Graduate Courses as per the Medical Council of India or Dental Council of India Regulations.


Application Form

The process involves the following stages:

Note: Send the Application in A4 size envelops only. Do not fold the application form.

  • Ensure that the DD for Rs.1500/-(Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only), along with all the marks cards and the attempt certificate are kept ready before filling up the Online Application form.
  • The Online application form has to be filled up properly and completely.
  • Take a print of the filled in Application form and Date of Birth Certificate / Identity Proof. (Candidate Copy and COMEDK Copy)
  • The Application form is said to be complete only if it is enclosed with all the documents mentioned below and posted to COMEDK office.
  • Multiple application form filled and received from the same candidate will result in confusion and may result in disqualification.
  • Multiple Demand Drafts in excess of the prescribed fee (Rs. 1500/-) if sent by the candidate will not be refunded.
  • Non-refundable fee for taking COMEDK PGET-2009 and attending centralized counseling, if eligible, is Rs.1500/- (Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only).
  • If Demand Draft is not enclosed the application will be rejected.

Note:

The recent passport size photographs to be provided have to beidentical. It should not be more than 6 months old. Application with smudged/tampered or hazy photograph will not be accepted. Any application received not adhering to these specifications will be rejected without any clarifications and no refund will be made. The decision of the COMEDK Committee on this would be final and binding.

Candidates are advised to visit COMEDK website regularly to watch for Red Alert. The Red Alert consist the list of incomplete applications. COMEDK is not responsible for rejection if clarifications listed in the red alert are not provided on time.

  • Photocopy of Degree Certificate / Provisional Degree Certificate / Internship Completion Certificate / Internship Completed Certificate / Registration Certificate
  • Photocopy of Attempt Certificate
  • Photocopies of all marks cards including that of failed year/semester if any (First Year/Semester to Final Year/Semester)
  • COMEDK copy of Date of Birth Certificate / Identity Proof in the prescribed form duly attested by the head of the institution where he/she has studied last
  • Additional photograph (mention your application number on the back of photograph)

The entrance test, COMEDK PGET-2009, will be held in Bangalore only.

Note: Applications will not be received in person either in the COMEDK office or by any member institutions.

Test Pattern

There will be one test for PG Medical and one test for PG Dental Courses. Each test will have 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQ).

  • The time allotted for the test would be 180 minutes. The test will begin at 10:00am and end at 1:00pm
  • Candidates are required to mark their answers in an OMR (Optical Mark Reader) Answer Sheet.
  • Each correct answer is awarded one mark.
  • There will be no Negative Marking.
  • However, in the event of a tie in score the principle of least negative responses will be adopted. In addition, if required, other methods may be adapted to break ties vide 5.4.2.
  • No Mark/s will be awarded for multiple marking (marking multiple responses) of any question.

Test Locations: The COMEDK entrance test, COMEDK PGET-2009, will be held in Bangalore City only. The test will be held on the mentioned time and date in all the test centres. The details of all the test centres will be published online. The centre address will be mentioned in the TAT, which would be dispatched to the candidates prior to the examination as per the calendar of events.

Test Admission Tickets and Related Information

The Entrance Test COMEDK PGET-2009 is mandatory for all candidates seeking admissions to Member Institutions of COMEDK. A merit / rank list is generated based on the candidate's scores in COMEDK entrance test.

Change of address, if any, during the process of COMEDK PGET-2009 must be intimated through post / courier / Email / Fax to COMEDK office so as to reach not later than 26/02/2009; the responsibility for the same rests solely with the applicants.

  • Claims (claiming minority status) made by candidates as belonging to Karnataka origin or Religious or Linguistic minority status etc is not verified while sending TAT for COMEDK-PGET 2009. However, if such a candidate qualifies for attending centralized counseling, it will be his/her responsibility to furnish original documents issued by competent authorities to the satisfaction of COMEDK authorities, failing which such a candidate will be considered only under All India General Merit.
  • Declaration once made in the application with regard to the category status like SC, ST, OBC, Minority etc., will not be changed subsequently either prior to test or counseling. Hence candidates are cautioned to fill in with great care about the category status.
