Applications are invited for the TANCET 2009 to be conducted by Anna University Chennai on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu on 30th & 31st May 2009, from candidates who seek admission to M.B.A., M.C.A., and M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Arch. / M.Plan. Degree Programmes in Tamil Nadu for the year 2009 – 2010 offered at University Departments of Anna University Chennai, Anna University Coimbatore, Anna University Trichy, Anna University, Tirunelveli, Govt. Engineering, Arts and Science Colleges, Govt. Aided Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges, and Govt. Quota seats in self-financing Engineering, Arts & Science Colleges / standalone Institutions.

TANCET 2009 Exam Date: 30th & 31st May 2009

Some Universities and Self–Financing Engineering Colleges may also opt to admit the students on the basis of TANCET for their quota of seats.

Other State candidates can appear for the entrance tests but, admission is subject to the eligibility conditions of the admitting authority / University.

Date and Time of TANCET Exam 2009:

M.B.A 30.5.2009 (Saturday) 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon
M.C.A 30.5.2009 (Saturday) 02.30 p.m. to 04.30 p.m.
M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. 31.5.2009 (Sunday) 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon

Eligibility for TANCET 2009:

  • TANCET MBA: A pass in any Degree with 10 + 2 + 3/4 years pattern or a pass in any Degree with 10 + 3 (Diploma) + 3 years pattern.
  • TANCET MCA: A pass in any degree with 10 + 2 + 3/4 years pattern with Mathematics at + 2 level or Mathematics/Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level or a pass in 10 + 3 (Diploma) + 3 years pattern with Mathematics at Diploma level or Mathematics / Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
  • TANCET M.Tech./M.E./M.Arch./M.Plan.: Details of the eligibility conditions are available in the website: www.annauniv.edu/tancet2009

Those who are appearing for final year / semester examination of the above qualifying degree in April / May 2009 can also apply for TANCET Exam 2009.

Registration of Application and Issue of Hall Ticket through Online:

Hall Ticket will be issued to the candidates who come in person to the following Co-ordinating Centres with cash or D.D. for the required amount towards Examination fee and a copy of 10th Std. Mark Sheet.

TANCET Application Form 2009:

Application Form is common for all the three entrance tests. Candidates have to submit only one application. The candidates have to pay a fee of Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC / ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu on production of a copy of Permanent Community Certificate) as entrance test fee for any one of the Programmes either

  1. M.B.A. or
  2. M.C.A. or
  3. M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./ M.Plan.

If a candidate desires to appear for more than one programme, for every additional programme, he / she has to pay Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) along with the filled-in application.

Registration for the Entrance Test

The candidates can also register through internet by logging on to www.annauniv.edu/tancet2009

The Demand Drafts should be drawn in favour of The Director, Entrance Examinations, Anna University Chennai, payable at Chennai, obtained from any Nationalized bank on or after 29.03.2009.

The completed application (registered through Internet) should reach the folowing addresses on or before 25.04.2009, by 5.30 p.m.

Exam Pattern:

Duration of the Test: 2 HOURS

The question paper will have sections:

  1. To evaluate the candidate's ability to identify critically the data and apply the data to business decisions from given typical business situations.

  2. To evaluate the skill of the candidate in answering questions based on the passages in the comprehension.

  3. To evaluate the skill on solving mathematical problems at graduate level (including those learnt in plus two or equivalent level).

  4. To test on determining data sufficiency for answering certain questions using the given data and the knowledge of Mathematics and use of day - to - day facts.

  5. To test the knowledge on written English with questions on errors in usage, grammar, punctuation and the like.

The question paper will have 100 objective type questions. Each question will have five alternate answers.

Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark and 1/5 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Multiple shadings will be considered as wrong answer and 1/5 mark will be deducted. Marks will not be deducted for the questions left unanswered.

TANCET MCA Entrance Test

Duration of the Test: 2 HOURS

The question paper will have the following sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability

  2. Analytical reasoning

  3. Logical reasoning

  4. Computer awareness

A few questions may also be there on verbal activity, basic science etc. The question paper will have 100 objective type questions. Each question will have four alternate answers.

Each correct answer will be awarded 1 mark and 1/4 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Multiple shadings will be considered as wrong answer and 1/4 mark will be deducted. Marks will not be deducted for the questions left unanswered.

TANCET M.Tech./ M.E./ M.Arch./ M.Plan (Non-GATE) Entrance Test

Duration of the Test: 2 HOURS

The question paper will have three parts.

Part-I and Part-II are compulsory and the candidates have to choose any one section out of 14 under Part-III depending upon his/her specialization.

Part - I Engineering Mathematics

This part will have 30 objective type questions and the candidates should answer all the 30 questions.

Part - II Basic Engineering & Sciences

This part will have 45 objective type questions. The candidates should answer a minimum of 30 questions. All the correct answers upto a maximum of 30 will be awarded 1 mark each and 1/4 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Part - III Specialization

This part will consist of 14 sections in various disciplines, like Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg., etc. Each section will have 40/45 objective type questions. The candidates have to choose any one section depending on his specialization, and should answer a minimum of 40 questions.

All the correct answers upto a maximum of 40 will be awarded 1 mark each and 1/4 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Each question will have 4 alternate answers. Multiple shadings will be considered as wrong answer and 1/4 mark will be deducted. Marks will not be deducted for the questions left unanswered.

The syllabi for the entrance test are furnished in the Annexure and the questions will be set at the undergraduate level.

NORMALISATION OF MARKS for M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan

The Entrance Test for M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan candidates has two common parts namely, Part- I Engineering Mathematics and Part-II Basic Engg. & Sciences and Part- III meant for different disciplines. On evaluation, the mean (m) mark and the standard deviation (s) of marks (raw marks) may vary from discipline to discipline under Part - III. Normalized marks are obtained using the formula:

Normalized marks = 50 + (10/s) (raw mark - m). This gives the relative ranking of the candidate in any discipline.
